What are the different types of graphic prints?

The Portables offers 3 print process:

-        Photographic – the highest quality resolution possible.  Photographic prints are continuous tone which means they are not like typical printers which place ink dots on paper.  But if you were to compare a photographic quality print with an inkjet print it would be 4000 dots per inch (dpi).  Photographic prints, since they are continuous tone, give you the most realistic representation of real life images.

-        Roll-to-roll inkjets – this printing process is the application of water soluble inks, up to 1,500 dpi, onto various flexible media.  Flexible media might be paper, bio-degradable vinyl or fabric.  The quality of inkjets is outstanding and can represent most images flawlessly.

-        Flat-bed inkjets – this process applies UV inks onto the surface of rigid or flexible media.  Options for media might be rigid styrene, glass, plexiglass, Aluminum, wood, tile, and almost any other material up to 1.25” thick.  The Portables flat-bed printers also have white ink which allows the printing of images onto black materials.  Since the inks are translucent, without the application of an opaque white initial layer, the media is visible through the print.  This can be part of the effect i.e. seeing the wood grain through the print.

What are the different types of lamination?

The Portables offers three types of protective lamination – textured, gloss, and non-reflective.  Textured lamination is more durable and has a matte finish.  It is not smooth to the touch due to its textured nature, but it is this texture that hides any potential scratches.  Gloss lamination gives your image a boost due to its sheen.  The vibrancy of your image is not affected at all with gloss lamination, but scratches will be more apparent on the lamination.  Non-reflective lamination is ideal for media backdrops and for locations with a lot of direct light.  The properties of this lamination disperse the light and any reflections to be dispersed.

How long does it take to produce my display?

Normally, we can produce a portable display, except for tension fabric, within 1-2 days.  Tension fabric takes a bit longer and can be produced within 4 days.  Let us know when you need it and odds are we will be able to produce it for you.  Our production team works to our clients demands not the other way around.

What is the proofing process like?

We try and make the proofing process as simple as possible.  Once you send us your artwork, we will check it to see if it has any technical issues that might prevent it printing properly.  Our next step is to produce a pdf proof for your review.  We send that proof to you for review and approval.  If there are changes we will make them and send you a revised proof.  If you have requested a colour proof we will produce this after final pdf approval.

How do we make sure our content is spectacular?

All of our artwork is reviewed by one of our design team prior to us printing the graphic.  Display graphics have certain best practises The Portables follows.  We will review your graphic and if we feel there are some changes that can be made to improve it, we will suggest them.  If you accept our suggestions we will implement them, if not we will print your original graphics.

I need a repair to my hardware

We try and build products that are indestructible, but sometimes the world is tougher.  If you have any hardware failures, please send us an email and we will send you an RMA number.  Ship or drop off the hardware to one of our offices across Canada and we will fix it for you.  Once the repair is completed we will contact you to arrange pickup of the display.

How can I replace my graphics?

For one of our display systems please email us and we will contact you to discuss your needs.  You do not need to send us the hardware.  For banner stands and fabric pop-ups, with the exception of SOLO, it is ideal if we have the hardware.  While the process of changing graphics is not difficult, it does require a bit of technical know-how and we don’t really want you to worry about that.  Send us an email ahead of time or live chat us to discuss further.

My panels don’t fit on my curved Network system

Sometimes our clients place the graphics on the outside curve of the system when they are designed for the inside curve of the system.  Try placing the graphics on the other side of the system and it should work.

My tension fabric graphic is dirty, how can I clean it?

The best way to clean a fabric graphic is to wash it in cold water in a gentle cycle.  Do not use agitator type washers.  Once the graphic is washed, lay it out to dry.  Do not attempt to dry it in a dryer.  The Portables KADO graphics are machine washable, but the Yello line is not.  With the Yello line, you can clean off the stains by using a Tide stain removal pen.

I need to increase my exhibit size, is my display scalable?

All of The Portables display systems are completely modular and can grow to accommodate your requirements.  Grow from 10 foot to 20 feet or to a 20 x 20 space, we can reconfigure your system to accommodate your growth.  Send us an email and we will work with you to protect your initial investment.

 What is Xibita?

Xibita is our custom division and focuses on exhibit and environmental solutions that need to be tailored for a client’s unique requirements.  To learn more about Xibita, please visit www.xibita.com

What guarantees do you provide on your products?

The Portables provides a lifetime guarantee on its hardware, unless specifically excluded.  If anything goes wrong with one of our products we will take care of it for you.  This guarantee is not valid if the product is damaged due to abuse or neglect.

How do I get a graphics template for my product?

All of our templates are available at www.theportables.com/artworktemplates

What are your hours of operation?

Depending on the location we are usually available from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday.

Can you store and set-up our exhibits?

The Portables has two storage facilities – Vancouver and Toronto.  We store and manage services for a number of clients.  The Portables can also ship your exhibit to the destination, set it up for you and once your show is done dismantle it and return it to our storage facility.  Once at our storage facility, we will do a quick inspection and make any necessary repairs before putting it back into storage.

Can you help with design work?

The Portables is not a full-service design agency.  As such we do not normally do brand development, we have a number of great agencies that we work with that can assist with this.  If you require design work for a tradeshow exhibit where the elements are available, we can certainly lay this out for you.  We have designers in the West and the East that have over 30 years of experience in tradeshow exhibit design.

Can you help us with our overall tradeshow program?

Absolutely.  If you tradeshow program is not generating the leads you require, we can certainly help.  We would have a discussion with you to find out what is not working and from there come up with a number of recommendations.  Maybe the show mix is wrong, your messaging is not clear, your booth staff need training, etc.  We would identify the missing elements and get your program on the right track.  Click here to send us an email and we will get back to you to discuss.

Can I check your displays as regular luggage?

For some airlines most of our displays can be checked as regular luggage, but some airlines are quite restrictive and a larger display will have to be checked as special baggage. Here are a few links to some airlines luggage policy:
